Water gets into basements through cracks, wall-floor joints, failed waterproofing on the outside of the wall, poor grading, clogged drains and window wells. Painting a wet wall from the inside rarely solves the problem for long.
We trace the water first. Depending on what we find, the fix can be sealing cracks, regrading so water runs away from the house, repairing leaders and drains, exterior excavation and waterproofing membrane, or an interior drainage system that carries water to a sump.
We explain the options and the trade-offs. Exterior waterproofing stops water at the wall but means digging; interior systems manage water that gets in. See also drainage and sump pumps.

Frequently asked questions
Interior or exterior waterproofing: which is better?
Exterior work stops water at the wall; interior systems collect water that gets in. The right choice depends on the house and access.
Why does my basement only leak in heavy rain?
Often it is drainage: leaders, grading or a clogged drain overwhelming one spot. We check those first.
Will waterproofing fix mold?
Stopping the water is the first step. Mold cleanup is a separate job.
