Retaining walls hold back soil on sloped yards, along driveways and between properties. Most failures come from water: without drainage behind the wall, pressure builds until the wall leans, cracks or bulges.
We build and rebuild retaining walls in poured concrete and block, with a proper footing, drainage stone and weep openings or drain pipe behind the wall. Taller walls, and walls near property lines or supporting driveways, can need engineering and permits. We tell you what applies.
We see a lot of retaining wall work on Staten Island's hillier streets and on sloped lots in Queens and the Bronx.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my retaining wall leaning?
Usually water pressure behind the wall from poor drainage, or an undersized footing.
Does a retaining wall need a permit?
It depends on height and location. Taller walls typically need engineering and a permit.
Can a leaning wall be repaired?
Sometimes. If the wall has rotated significantly, rebuilding is usually the safer choice.
